Topics: Landscape, Historical City, Urban Fabric, Public Spaces, Waterfront.
The project redefines the space of contact between the urban fabric, the riverfront and water. Currently, the riverfront appears as a “thick” line which encounters heterogeneous urban situations offering different opportunities of living the outdoor space.
In this context, Piazza XX Settembre is seen as the natural stage for the “slow time” characteristic of the historical settlement on water. In this way, it becomes a connecting element between the complex pattern of the urban fabric and the linear one of the riverside/lakefront. Built elements mark the geometric definition of this space of contact between different anthropic and natural systems. The proposal defines structures that allow the approach to the water as an integrated element to the urban space. A pier equipped with seats will allow the enjoiment of the skyline of the city and a floating dock on the water to experience the “tactile” contact of the river.
